Essential Oils in the Garden
How to Use Oils in the Garden
Add a few drops to a watering can, water as normal
Scatter chopped fresh leaves over soil near plants
Dab drops of pure essential oil on a ribbon and hang in garden
Soak string in water/oil mixture and string among plants
Add 5-10 drops oil per gallon of water in sprayer
Add a few drops to candle wax or light bulb, heat will emit active compounds from oil
Oil Teas
For Garden Use ONLY
Boil 10 drops essential oil in 3 cups water, leave to cool. Use 2 Tbsp in 1 gal of water to water garden
Oil Insect Repellents
2 ½ tsp total of any combination of the following essential oils: basil, cedarwood, citronella, juniper, lemon, myrrh, palmarosa, pine, rose geranium, rosemary to 1 c 190 proof grain alcohol
Place ingredients in a jar with a tight fitting lid and shake vigorously.
To use: rub small amount on exposed skin (test first) or dab onto clothing
Specific Recipes
Recipe #1
2 Tbsp citronella oil
2 Tbsp rosemary oil
2 Tbsp geranium oil
2 Tbsp eucalyptus oil
1/2 c olive oil
Store in an opaque bottle. Dab oil on bandanna, clothing, hat or skin but KEEP AWAY from eyes and mouth.
Recipe #2
½ teaspoon citronella essential oil
½ teaspoon eucalyptus essential oil
½ teaspoon lavender essential oil
4 ounces distilled witch hazel
Mix ingredients in a 4-ounce spray bottle. Shake well. Spray onto exposed skin, avoiding eyes and mucous membranes. Reapply every 2 hours, or as needed.
Recipe #3
2 ounces vegetable oil or vodka
¼ teaspoon each citronella and eucalyptus essential oils
1/8 teaspoon each cedar and rose geranium essential oils
Combine ingredients and apply mixture directly to all exposed skin. Keep oil away from your eyes and mouth, and be careful not to rub your eyes right away after applying the repellent with your fingers.
