Meditations :: Focused Meditation
Select a visual stimuli related to something you have recently studied, read about, experienced. It may be a tarot card, candle of a certain color, a glyph or symbol, etc.
Place the object of focus on a surface that will be eye level when you are in your meditation posture. Quiet your mind and relax your body as you normally do and close your eyes. You may even like to state allowed your intention to better understand the meaning/energy behind what is being represented by your choice of focal point.
Open your eyes and look directly at the focal point, to the exclusion of everything else. Allow your mind to run through the correspondences that you already associate with the concept being represented. Initially, your mind will probably create a list. Let the list run to its end.
When the list is exhausted, still looking at the focal point, take the first impression that comes to mind and turn it over in your mind until it too is exhausted. Let (or force) your mind create links between this thought and what you know about the energy you are focused on.
Depending on the depth with which you choose to analyze the first impression received from the focal point, you may or may not choose to go on to the next impressions. If you decide to go on, exhaust the thoughts that come to mind with relation to each impression.
Don’t edit or think “that’s not related”. There is an exchange of energy occurring here between yourself and what is being represented. The thoughts are coming for some reason and their relevance will most likely be revealed if they are allowed to play out.
When you are done, return to the world as you normally would. If you have opened the door with words, remember to shut it with words.
