Months :: August
What's in a Name?
August, the eighth month of the year, was named in honor of the Roman emperor Augustus Casesar. It was once the sixth month of the old Roman calendar and so was called Sextilis, which means "sixth".
The Anglo-Saxons called it Weod monath, meaning Weed month, because it is the month when weeds and other plants grow most quickly.
